Howling Moon

I dreamt the woods were calling out to me
The night breathed a wind through the trees
I heard a sound that drove through my soul
A music that found it's way in me
I walked the darkness in the chill of the night
The light of fire up ahead
My eyes were reeling from what I looked upon
My heart afraid that I was dead
I'm haunted by the silver moonlight
I'm haunted by the howling moon
This yearning turns us into
Reeds by the water
I wish that river flowed through me
I crossed the threshold to another place
Or maybe it had taken space in me
It shone with light I'd never seen the like of
A fragrant warmth I could breathe
They came up close to welcome me in,
A face so bright I had to look away:
'Friend, what brings you to the outer lands?
The cost of this journey is hard to pay'
The dreams of the night,
Sometimes catch a soul aflame
But the dreams of the day take ahold;
It's a dangerous calling,
To breathe a dream alive
Maybe I was there a thousand years
But I woke in coldness the next day.
The taste will always be upon my lips,
And I've heard it's always been this way.
I saw the eye of the circle and the sun,
I felt the heavens in my hand.
I heard the whisper of a better way,
I saw a line drawn in the sand
